Divisions 3 & 4: Review of the weekend 21st-22nd May

There are only three matches to report on, all played on Sunday.  In Division 3, Clontarf 2 travelled up the coast to play Malahide 2 in the Village.  A 92 run third wicket partnership between Rob Weir (68) and Mike O'Brien (48) provided the base for a decent 48 over total of 243-7, with later contributions from Damian Ryan (41) and Sirash Kiran (27*).  Ian Dent took 4/51.  The D/L target was 255 to win, and 'Tarf almost got there thanks to 36 from Vijay Gopal, 72 from Niall Delany and a late 44 from Paul Ryan before he was bowled two short of a win with two balls to go.  Kiran took 3/46.

There was another close match, this time in Division 4, between Railway Union 2 and visitors Laois.  The top half of the Laois innings was anchored by P Auret's 62, and the bottom half underlain by 44* from Blackley, 40 from Yasin and 29 from Khan.  This produced a 49 over total of 258/9, and a D/L target of 258 to win.  Railway recovered from 36-4 through Mark Ingram (36) and Simon Grehan, and were taken to the brink of victory by Grehan (84) and Coburn (51).  Old soldier Ger O'Brien and new recruit Mansoor saw them add the 22 needed for a two wicket victory.

Also in Sandymount, Phoenix 2 had a comfortable win over YMCA 2.  Phoenix posted 160 all out, not a great score in Claremont Road, Masud Ahmed top-scoring with 42.  A woeful batting display by YM ensured that it was never threatened, only Travis Partridge featuring with 29 out of 88.  Nazir took 4/9 and Masud Ahmed 3/19.
